Employee Spotlight: Jamie Young

Andrew Daniel

After featuring Dawn Woodrow’s 10th anniversary with Softdocs last month, we realized we missed sharing Jamie Young’s story. Before working at Softdocs, he worked for Mack Trucks as a purchasing assistant. From there, he became a support technician at CHMC for Mack Trucks. He then had a brief stint at Pitney Bowes as an installation technician and consultant before working on the Geek Squad at Best Buy. In a little over three years, he had worked for four different companies. Now, for over a decade, he’s still enjoying Softdocs. Here’s why:

What do you like most about the company?

I like the relaxed environment of the company the most.

How have you seen Softdocs evolve over the past decade?

As a company, we have seen a significant increase in personnel over the years and from that, a higher level of corporate atmosphere has arisen. In time we have kept the small business feel while moving toward a refinement that demands greater expectations.

What has been the most exciting/memorable/fun thing about working here?

Learning and living with the technical influences around me.  My fellow employees through the years have all worked together to share knowledge and improve as a collective and this has made us better overall.

How has your position evolved over the years?

I have progressed from support to Software developer.  The only positions I have not held are on the administrative and sales sides of things.

What would you say is most challenging about your position?

Anticipating expectations.

What does a typical day look like for you?

I start by visualizing what I will be working on then prepare a plan of attack to address the issues as efficiently as time permits.

What do you like most about your job?

The opportunity to be around people that enjoy learning and stimulate my desire to learn.

What do you do for fun outside of work?

Minecraft, study particle physics, robotics, rocket science, space exploration, science fiction, and a new hobby of .NET micro development.

Happy Belated Anniversary, Jamie! We appreciate your hard work and dedication!
